Participants are asked to meet at the Kiosk in the car park. Tours run between 10am and 4pm (subject to weather). In the summer months, our hours are extended.
In the 20 minute tour, a personal guide will take you around the fully operational lighthouse (into the lamp room), as well as explaining the working and history of the site. The tour also includes a viewing out on the balcony.
The new Radio Signal Tower Lookout is now open. It offers spectacular views down the beach to the Heads of Port Phillip Bay. The Museum has also been extended with a second room containing information via video of the oldest and highest lighthouse in the world. You can find the current weather conditions on display in the Museum.
There are very few lighthouses in Australia that are still operating, have all the inner workings still in place and have the original lens (which is still shining its full distance).
The museum is expanding all the time and is very informative with a listing of the many shipwrecks and stories from the descendants of the early lighthouse keeper families. For those who cannot climb the steps into the lamp room we have the photos for you to view in the Museum.
Have your lunch on one of our picnic tables or in the old stables where there is a BBQ. Choose to stay the night in cosy lighthouse accommodation in Australia, where you will sleep in one of the original Head Keeper’s cottages.
